About us

An organisation built by its own participants.

Januam gUG is a non-profit organisation in Darmstadt, Germany. We create access to education for people with a migration background — practically, free of charge, and as equals.

Why we exist

Arriving in Germany is rarely a question of willingness. It is a question of access: to a language course that fits a shift pattern. To a computer, and the knowledge to use it. To someone who can explain how qualification recognition works.

That access is unevenly distributed. That is exactly where we start.

How we work

We develop what we offer together with the people it is for, and with specialists, public institutions, education providers and project organisations. This is method, not decoration: a course planned away from people’s actual lives stays empty.

Values

What we want to be judged on

Respect

Everyone brings something. Origin, qualifications and language level say nothing about the worth of a contribution.

Inclusion

Equal chances at education, work and participation — whatever someone’s gender, age, origin or disability.

Empowerment

We do not solve problems for people. We hand over the tools so they can do it themselves.

Transparency

Open communication about our funding, our impact and the limits of our work.
